Online Ordering : Files via FTP
You can transmit your files to us through the convenience of our FTP site. The virtual key to get into an FTP site is the UserID and password. Email us at digital@thelabworks.com to set up a user account and password to access this service.
What is FTP? FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the simplest and most secure way to exchange files over the Internet.
An FTP address looks a lot like an HTTP, or Website address except it used the prefix ftp:// instead of http://.

The ROES Client is a Java-based application that runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. It has been designed to be easy to use so you have a great experience placing orders with The Lab Works. The client runs on both Windows and Macs.
Choose one of the following options when ordering using the roes system:
It offers you the ability to select a lab defined product and precisely define crops and rotations on your images within that product. You simply choose a folder of images and start selecting from among The Lab Works products in which to put them.
Use our Roes order system through your browser or download this Java application to your desktop. Complete your information and then browse your folder of images (jpegs only please), pick your product and you’re off. Choose from our Mini and Pocket Album catalogue or the Digital Printing catalogue or the Metallic Printing catalogue. Many custom sizes available. When sending an order, make sure to check your queue to see if the order has finished sending, before closing your browser or allowing your system to go to sleep. Works with either a Mac or PC.

Digital Photo Printing
The Chromira difference…
The Lab Works was the first facility in Canada to offer Digital Photographic Prints printed on award-winning Chromira LED printers. The Chromira’s incredible resolution is achieved through it’s unique diamond-shaped pixels and the optical blending that occurs when they overlap. Our printers are ICC profiled for Kodak Ultra papers resulting in optimum colour on final output. Shadow and highlight detail are superb; text looks sharp and overall tonality is great. The Chromira also renders beautiful flesh tones and neutral grays. Chromira digital prints are true photographic prints, exposed with LED light. We can print an image area of 30” by any length with immaculate fidelity, resolution and sharpness – ideal for large display and banner applications. This printer makes the combination of text and imagery a breeze. When submitting files please ensure they are 8 bit RGB.tiff or RGB.jpeg. Avoid layers, channels, selections, LZW compression.

Kodak Endura Metallic Paper features a unique metallic/pearlescent look, giving images a brilliance unlike any other output media. Detail is sharp, colours are saturated, flesh tones look natural, and an ultra-bright background helps images really pop. Foam Cor
The best value! Foam Cor is a lightweight polystyrene foam “sandwiched” between high quality white paperboard liner facings. Versatile for displays and framing. Not warp resistant. Available in white or black.
Gator Foam
Gator Foam is a laminated panel with a core of extruded polystyrene and a face made of resin impregnated wood fibre veneers. The board of choice for mounting exhibits and signs where lightweight, strength, rigidity and warp resistance are a must. Available in black and white.
Sintra
A lightweight and rigid plastic. Sintra
has a closed cell structure which
inhibits moisture absorption and is
warp resistant. Sintra is great for short
term signage and mounting for framing.
Lexan
A Polycarbonate film known for it’s flexibility, strength and rigidity. Used as a substrate in combination with an overlaminate to protect tradeshow graphics and provide rigidity for pop up displays. Can be loosely rolled – does contain some memory.

RAW File Conversion
RAW processing involves individually adjusting colour, exposure, saturation and contrast and outputting high quality jpegs suitable for client delivery, for printing purposes or general viewing or posting to web.
Many colour corrections can be streamlined with a little effort on the front end of shooting to custom balance the colour of any photographic situation. It’s less labour intensive to be able to process one image and apply similar enhancements to several more images just like it. This is very important for not only continuity between all photographs, but a major time saving during the processing stage of the images.
Digital capture files can’t be processed properly if they’re overexposed. When it comes to quality, nothing replaces proper exposure for getting the tones to reproduce with all the dynamic range possible. Taking a little more time to expose the image properly will save time processing files at the computer.
Our charge for raw file conversions is based on time spent and can vary depending on the quality of the incoming RAW files. The price per file will vary between $.50 per file and may be up to $1.00 per file. This is based on an $80/hour digital rate.
Jpeg colour correction involves all of the same steps as RAW processing (individually adjusting colour, exposure, saturation and contrast and outputting high quality jpegs suitable for client delivery) when the original file is a jpeg.
